People often confuse SSI, SSDI, and CAPI.
SSI:
– Needs-based program
– For people with low income/resources
– Age 65+, blind, or disabled
SSDI:
– Based on work history and work credits
– For people with qualifying disabilities
– Not strictly needs-based like SSI
CAPI (California):
– State program for some non-citizens who cannot receive SSI due to immigration status
– Needs-based rules apply
